CHAMBER CHOIR TONIKA

Chamber choir “Tonika” was founded in 1966. The choir's repertoire includes both spiritual, and mundane music varied from Renaissance till nowadays as well as Latvian and foreign music.

The choir concert life is active in Latvia and abroad. "Tonika" regularly participates in concerts, festivals and competitions in the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland, France and Italy.

Activities and the most recent awards won by the choir are following:

• the 2nd and the 3rd place at the 19th and 20th International Choir Competition in Tolos (Spain) in 1991
• the 3rd place at the 22nd International Choir Competition in Tolos (Spain) in 1994
• the 1st place and Grand Prix at the International Choir Competition Voci dal Garda in Salo (Italy) in 1998
• the 2nd grade diploma and conductor prize at 4th International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf (Germany) in 1999
• participant of International Girls' choir festival "Girls' voices 2000 , 2003, 2005" in Riga
• concert tours in Germany (2003)
• participant of VIII International Choir Competition "Tallinn 2003" (Estonia)
• participant of XXIII Latvian Song and dance festival
• participant of VII International Choir Competition "Maribor 2004" (Slovenia)
• participant of XIV International Festival of Advent and Christmas music with P.Eben prize in Prague 2004(Czech Republic) (Gold diploma)
• participant of 9th Latvian School Youth
• Song and Dance Celebration in Riga 2005, (Gold diploma)
• concert tours in Germany , Switzerland (2005)
• participant of 54th “Guido d'Arezzo” International Polyphonic Competition

"Tonika" has three different age groups:

• Studio (6 - 12 year olds)
• Girls Choir (12-16 year olds)
• Chamber Choir (16 - 25 year olds)

Attractive concerts and musical performances are regularly staged apart from academic music concerts. Traditions - summer camps, dancing, common events and celebrations play an important role in "Tonika’s" daily life.
